Whenever I look at low-priced sex toys, the first thing that comes to mind is that it’s: toxic, cheaply-made, and weak vibrations. Maia has to be one of the first non-white-labeled brands to exceed expectations. I received the Dual Motors Wand and Stimulation Vibrator—these feel just a bit more than decent. The insertable and contact portions of the massagers are made out of silicone and feel high quality. On top of all of this, the massagers each have two vibrating motors. But does it give you double the strength?
These toys were given to me free of charge for the purpose of review from Maia Toys directly. This fact does not change or sway my opinion in any way. This review is purely based on my opinion and not by any external factors. Thank you Maia Toys!
I’m pretty satisfied with the look and feel of the massagers. The silicone is a matte-type that feels pretty great with lubricant added. The overall design and feel of silicone is reminiscent of LELO toys.
I have to state right now, that the packaging is definitely a lot like what Tantus toys are packaged in. The packaging for the Maia toys is pretty to look at. There exist no typos on the packaging (unlike some Chinese white-label toys). The boxes that these toys came in are very similar to what one can find in a high-end adult store. There are colorful shapes and I am thankful for the lack of explicit images right on the front. As I just stated, it reminds me too much of Tantus’ packaging.
The controls are pretty different than any other toy that I have tried. For the vibrator with a clitoral stimulator, there is a power button and a mode button. Pressing the power button cycles through the intensities and the mode button changes the mode.
On the other hand, the controls for the wand is a bit different. You press power to activate the toy—there are two separate buttons here, one for the head of the wand, and the other button turns on the tail end of the wand. If you are planning on using the head portion of the wand, I recommend not turning the tail end since you’ll most likely be holding it from there. After a while, your hand will feel the vibrations. Generally, good wands make the head vibrate and not the actual handle.
The vibration motors themselves are super high frequency with low strength. Meaning mostly buzzy. For many, that means that this toy is automatically disqualified. My partner (a cisgender female) has stated that it can be a bit too much; especially compared to the other massagers that she has used in the past. You have to use it at just the right speed with just the right pressure, or it can make you sensitive (as she calls it) quickly.
The Experience (Hers)
Written from my partner’s perspective
The fact that the vibrations are high-frequency [buzzy] can be a huge turn off for many potential users. It is vital to start off the vibrator at the lowest speed. If you start too fast at the beginning, it can almost make you numb right away.
The suction cup vibrator doesn’t really have a handle, it’s best used if it’s mounted to the wall. Using it with your own hand makes your hand tingly afterwards. It’s a super uncomfortable feeling and I wouldn’t recommend using it this way to anyone. You are kind of obligated to mount it to something.
As for the wand vibrator, I highly recommend keeping the handle end of the wand turned off. I found the handle end uncomfortable to use and stuck to the head only. Honestly and truthfully, I enjoyed the wand myself. I only used it clitorally, but that’s all I really need. The vibrations weren’t overpowering such as some wands that I already use but they weren’t weak either. I feel like it falls just in the center of the spectrum.
Internal stimulation isn’t too great for me—I didn’t really like the suction cup vibrator. The vibrations start off fast too, meaning that I can get pretty sensitive very quickly. If I use it through clothes, I can see that it’s just a bit more bearable. Even then, I don’t see myself using the internal part too much or just this toy in general. That’s my personal preference and will definitely not be the same as everyone else’s opinion.
- Easy-to-use controls
- Easy to hold
- Buzzy vibrations can be a huge turn-0ff
- Unnecessary dual motors in the wand
- Controls could be more elaborated. Current ones require cycling through
Each of the Maia toys are decently priced. For a budget-oriented user, these are an excellent choice. Both the wand and the suction cup vibrator are good at performing their jobs. If buzzy vibrations are a deal-breaker, I do suggest you look somewhere else. For those still on board, if you’re tight on a budget, it is worth giving these toys a try.
